Objective
Inspired by the wide range of interactivity that email offers, our team decided to break the mould and develop an interactive Minesweeper game that could be seamlessly integrated into emails and played directly in the inbox. Our goal was to break new ground and implement innovative approaches to email marketing that would take user engagement to a new level.

Challenge
The biggest challenge was to design the game so that it could be seamlessly integrated as a widget into existing email delivery systems and work flawlessly across different devices and email clients. We also had to ensure that the interactive Minesweeper game provided enough value to increase user engagement.
Solution
When developing our interactive Minesweeper game, we focused on creating an engaging and intuitive gaming experience. To ensure seamless integration with the existing email delivery system, we designed the game as a flexible widget. The interactive Minesweeper game not only increases the interactivity of the email, but also creates targeted positive brand awareness for the company sending the game to their newsletter subscribers. Especially for subscribers who have not yet purchased anything, this innovative experience can generate interest and positively influence the brand image by showing that the brand is very innovative.
Of course, the game also offers opportunities to extend marketing components that can be tailored to the user in a more or less personalised way, depending on the data available in the mailing system. The following use cases can be considered to further increase engagement and improve data collection through the playful approach:
- Customer Loyalty: Personalised email invitations to the exclusive interactive Minesweeper game reward loyal customers and incentivise those who complete the game without setting off a bomb with prizes or discounts.
Personalisation: The user is already segmented for a possible mailing based on their data. The level of prizes or discounts is based on their success in the game.
